Kid’s Birthday Party Trends to Continue in 2020

Have you earned a reputation for throwing the best birthday parties for your children? You may not like to admit it, but you probably love upholding this title. And chances are you’re secretly looking forward to the next birthday party so you can outdo yourself, while making sure your child is happy about it as well.
We’ve rounded up some of our personal favorite trends, which are likely to continue in the next year! Buckle up and check out some of these creative ideas that you can take inspiration from.

Themes that continue to be popular

A birthday party theme is not strictly necessary but something that makes things convenient. It can help you during the decision making process a lot especially when it comes to décor, food, party favors and more. Here are some themes that are always a hit with the kids.

· Llamas

Children are particularly fascinated with llamas and you can have llama themed décor or have live llamas at the party for children to pet. Some people are even calling llamas the new unicorns!

· Science Themed

Bill Nye the science guy has captured the intrigue of many children and adults alike and a science themed party is now cool! This can be an educational experience for your children as well and you can feature science shows as part of the entertainment.

· Scavenger hunt

A bit of mystery and adventure at a birthday party keeps children busy with something and also entertains them. You can have all kinds of age-appropriate themes like Dora the Explorer or Indiana Jones themed birthdays. Make up clues and hide them around the venue so children can work in groups or on their own to discover them!

Gift giving trends

Birthday parties and gifts go hand in hand, right? Apparently, not so for most parents. Some are requesting that no gifts should be a part of the birthday or others might want you to donate on behalf of the child to a charity. Here are some other options for gift-giving rules:

· Fiver parties

This is a popular trend in Australia, which makes gift giving super easy at parties! You can even have a no-gift party. A fiver party means that instead of a gift each guest contributes five dollars to a bigger gift that the parent has bought for the child. This can be something that the birthday kid has really wanted for a long time like an X Box or a new musical instrument. It’s less wasteful and hassle and we love it!

· Bring a book parties

Some parents also send out emails to parents requesting that each parent bring a book as a gift. This works out for the parent because;
a) It eliminates the possibility of someone bringing a gift that you don’t allow your children to interact with for e.g. video games
b) Makes sure that your child has a gift they can actually use.

Trendy desserts

Creative culinary experts have shown us that there’s more to dessert than just cake at a birthday party. Whether it’s a tower of pancakes or a donut castle, there are so many more options. You can even switch up entire cakes for simple bite sized cake pops. Or you can stick to tradition and have a large decorative cake for your child. The choice is up to the birthday kid!
